Argyll-Ruane Ltd/ The Rope Training Company/ Bridon        back
The opportunity to present Bridon’s approved training has provided a catalyst for two ex-employees of Bridon to form The Rope Training Company. The company was to undertake, with the support of Argyll Ruane Ltd, approved wire rope training for Bridon in the form of a course on the Selection, Safe Use and Retirement of Wire Rope. The two ex-employees of Bridon come from slightly different backgrounds.

Henry Plant spent time on the technical and production side of wire rope manufacture holding, during his 28 years with Bridon, a variety of positions including the Production Manager of the specialist production facility (south ropery) and R&D Manager undertaking much of the company’s development work. During these times he became very involved with on-site installation, maintenance and development work for a variety of rope applications and inquest work. During his time with Bridon he also taught and lectured to customers and other interested parties about the use and removal criteria for rope. Having left Bridon some fifteen years ago, he set up a consultancy company using his knowledge of the manufacture of wire rope to oversee and expedite the manufacture of very large contracts, particularly for moorings in deep water. He also undertook a number of other pieces of work involving litigation following accidents and problems of rope use in a wide variety of applications. Henry also spent lecturing on the use and inspection and removal criteria required for wire ropes.

Bob Jowers gained experience on the manufacture and sales of specialist rope systems while managing structural systems Department in Doncaster for a number of years. He also has the added advantage of a considerable knowledge of fibre rope applications and manufacture having been the General Manager of the fibre activities in London which produced ropes mainly for the marine industry. In a similar capacity, he was involved in a number of subsidiary activities related to the oil and marine industry when working for Bridon Offshore Systems which specialised in offshore moorings and fluid transfer systems. Since leaving Bridon some five years ago, he has also lectured in a training capacity on a number of different subjects and undertaken various project management and expediting roles.

The experience of Henry and Bob in the rope industry coupled with the training and administrative experience of Argyll Ruane Ltd, attracted Bridon to entrust the training of their own personnel and valued customers to this combination of expertise. Argyll Ruane Ltd's long history of the administration of training, their resources and the presentation of this sort of course will enhance its quality.

The new course has been developed with a detailed set of notes for use in undertaking examination work and a comprehensive power-point presentation which covers the whole subject with a large number of photographs, diagrams and tables of the relevant information.

It is felt that this team will provide a powerful training group within this very specialist area and it is intended to promote and market the course to a very wide range of customer groups throughout the UK, Europe and the World.

Further courses are planned for fibre rope and a number of additional specialist areas.
