There are guidance courses aimed at the PCN Level 3 requirements for Penetrant Testing Practitioners.
The main objective of the courses is to make candidates fully aware of the scope of the examination and level of knowledge required. It will also enable candidates to identify their weak subject areas. Advice will be given on any further tuition required.
 
Course content- Section A - day 1 and 2:
- PCN requirements for Level 3 approval
- Complimentary NDT methods
- Product technology
- Quality assurance, quality control and
- supervision
- Specifications/procedures and techniques
- Analysis of PT reports
- Section B - day 3, 4 and 5:
- Advanced penetrant theory and revision
- Analysis of procedures
- Procedure writing
- Mock examinations
Pre-requisites for attending this course
Candidates should ideally hold a PCN Level 2 approval in Penetrant Testing as a minimum and have at least 2 years experience in NDT/Inspection before attempting this course. See also the latest edition of PCN/GEN for the minimum requirements for examinations.

(1) Candidates who already hold PCN Level 3 certification in other method(s) may opt to take the last three days of the course which deals specifically with penetrant test information. See section B under course content
